What is Heartburn?
Heartburn, also known as acid reflux, is a burning sensation in the chest or throat that comes on when acid from the stomach escapes and rises up into your oesophagus. Not cool.
WHAT CAUSES HEARTBURN?
Heartburn is caused by a variety of different reasons such as having a weak opening to the oesophagus, as well as other dietary and lifestyle factors. That includes the types of food and drink that you may consume, how quickly you consume them, as well as what time of day you decide to consume them. It can also be caused by other factors such as being stressed out or eating too soon before you go to bed.
HOW GAVISCON CAN HELP
Gaviscon Double Action gets to work instantly as it neutralises any unwanted excess acid in your stomach whilst forming a protective barrier, or raft, on the top of your stomach contents. This physical barrier helps to keep stomach contents and the acid in place. Nice one. Gaviscon Double Action can provide effective, long-lasting relief and has been proven to last up to twice as long as antacids.
When to see a doctor?
Heartburn and indigestion don’t need to be a consistent problem in your life. If you feel that your symptoms aren’t improving, book an appointment with your GP or see your pharmacist as soon as possible.
What is Indigestion?
Many people will experience indigestion at some point in their life, normally right after eating or drinking something that disagrees with their stomach. Indigestion is caused by acid breaking down the protective lining of the stomach wall, which gives you irritation and soreness. You can feel bloated, or uncomfortably full, as well as having nausea or loss of appetite. It is most commonly caused by what you eat and drink, as well as how you consume them. Eating too much or too quickly, or mixing fatty food and alcohol will commonly cause people to experience heartburn or indigestion.
